Extreme weather events have frequently cropped up this summer. According to as yet incomplete statistics, records for the highest temperatures in at least 18 provinces across the country have been broken. At the same time, there was heavy rain and even hail in many places. The weather extremes have posed a severe test to the staff at our parks.

In order to keep our parks unaffected by extreme weather, our forward-thinking colleagues have come up with effective response plans and put them in place. While ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the parks, we have also taken the initiative to fulfill our social responsibilities, acting on the call of the nation to save energy. With a multitude of measures, we have managed to be productive and energy-conserving.

Sweat and “cool” strategy allows for a shelter against the worst heat wave

In the middle of the scorching heat, the employees of each Prologis Park have been standing fast at their posts to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the parks.

The challenges facing them this summer went beyond high temperature. The extra workload of nucleic acid testing and power rationing have all added to the frustration of front-line employees. In the grip of high temperatures up to 40°C, the employees of our parks have all received nucleic acid testing to ensure a safe working environment.

In order to ensure the safety of front-line employees working at high temperatures, Prologis Park has taken a series of measures such as making medicine boxes available 24/7, preparing food and items to cool down the body, and increasing shifts while ensuring safe access. This is what we have done to safeguard the safety and health of front-line workers.

In addition, we have also taken the initiative to eliminate heat-related hazards for our customers. From preparing heat stress prevention goods and food, to regularly assisting key customers in turning on ventilation equipment to lower ambient temperatures, our parks have reduced safety hazards to personnel and equipment brought about by high temperatures.

The seamless cooperation across all levels of our organization has enabled all our parks to rise above the high temperature stress test. Our actions have been highly appreciated by our customers.

Plan ahead, and be prepared for heavy rain

While going ahead with the heat action plan, we have also prepared an emergency response plan for heavy rain and have got it across to our employees. The plan is ready to be set in motion in the event of heavy rain.

We have checked the roof for possible leaks, redressed any defects, and cleaned the roof gutters and drainage pipes. By acting in advance, we have done whatever it takes to minimize the adverse effects of heavy rain on the parks.

Be responsible in dealing with power outages, power cuts, and power rationing

Summer marks the time of year with the highest levels of electricity use and the highest odds of power outages and blackouts. In response to the call from the Chinese government to save electricity, we have volunteered to lower our electricity use, sparing more electricity for residential use and easing pressure on the power grid.

Our parks have launched emergency plans for power outages. Our efforts include the strict implementation of bi-weekly inspections of generators, making weather forecast available at all times, informing customers of electricity consumption, standing on duty 24 hours a day during power outages, and checking electrical equipment for failures for our customers.

In terms of energy conservation, we strictly follow the policy of the authorities to reduce energy consumption. We aim to ensure that machinery stops and the power is off when people leave, and we make sure to never leave electrical equipment and electrical appliances idling. We forbid the use of any personal high-power electrical appliances in the office and the dormitory. We encourage companies to use natural ventilation to avoid the long-term operation of air conditioners.

We mandate that air conditioners are set to no lower than 26°C and that the power is off when rooms are empty.

At present, the staff of our logistics parks are still fighting on the front line amidst the high temperatures, holding up a “parasol” and “safety umbrella” for our customers to ensure the normal operation of the parks.
