The net-zero emissions scheme represents a promising blueprint for the development of green urban buildings in the future. The plan, which focuses on shifting to clean energy-powered industrial infrastructure, points the way towards achieving net-zero emissions.
01 With solar capacity on the rise, Prologis makes new progress towards near-zero emissions.
Findings from a survey by the World Bank show that energy-efficient buildings hold the key to reaching the 2030 climate target, with their potential to contribute up to 70% in emission reduction.
Prologis’ solar power projects will help accelerate the popularization of green buildings, which paves the way for achieving net-zero emissions throughout the value chain. The global leader in logistics real estate is now ranked second in the US for on-site solar generation in 2022, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association's (SEIA) Solar Means Business Report. As of Sept. 30, 2022, Prologis' solar installations totaled 378 megawatts. Solar power is becoming more and more irreplaceable in its role in the greening of industrial infrastructure.
In the 2022 Solar Means Business Report, the SEIA stated that energy-intensive businesses are turning to solar power as the most affordable and reliable way to power their properties.
Thanks to Prologis' rooftop solar system, customers are capable of reaping both economic and environmental benefits. They have also gained recognition from the global integrated logistics company GXO Logistics, Inc.
02 Benefiting the local community | Partnering with the Clean Power Alliance to make renewable energy more accessible
In addition, Prologis is expanding its green footprint and working to make renewable energy more accessible to residents in surrounding communities.
As a partner of the Clean Energy Alliance (CPA), Prologis is participating in the Power Share program run by the new electricity provider in Southern California. Prologis has signed a number of 15-year renewable energy power purchase agreements with the CPA. The accords will see Prologis provide affordable clean energy to disadvantaged communities near its locations. The five projects being carried out under the agreements will produce enough energy to power more than 2,400 homes in Southern California while avoiding 3,768 metric tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per year.
The partnership between the CPA and Prologis on the solar projects will bring renewable energy to a greater number of low-income homes. The 20 percent discount on energy bills will help ease the pressure from rising energy prices on households in local communities.
Abigail Ross Hopper, SEIA's president and CEO, is convinced that Prologis is leading the way when it comes to driving the clean energy economy forward. Whilst addressing the effects of climate change, Prologis is also working to ensure companies can reliably meet their electricity needs with clean, affordable solar power.
All five of the Prologis projects are expected to become operational by the end of 2023, with an estimated 110 jobs being created. On top of creating economic value, the company is also focused on thriving alongside the local community.
In its 2021-22 ESG Report, Prologis made public the aggressive goal of achieving net zero emissions across the value chain by 2040. It also announced the deployment 1 GW of solar energy, supported by energy storage, by 2025. With sustainability goals in mind, Prologis' global team is actively carrying out renewable energy projects across countless locations. Moving forward, Prologis will work with customers in the market to invest in green industrial infrastructure that fully embraces the zero carbon era.
Prologis has so far permitted and built 54 solar rooftop projects within the counties of Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino. The leader in logistics real estate is committed to helping its customers drive energy transformation to deliver sustainability results.
