The integration of ESG (environmental stewardship, social responsibility and governance) practices into business is an issue of common concern for the whole logistics industry. Part of ESG, social responsibility is known as an important measure of a company's social value and long-term investment value.

As an infrastructure investor and operator tasked with driving industrial upgrading, Prologis is committed to improving the vocational skills and professional competence of supply chain employees and to promoting the sustainable development of the industry. This is how Prologis works towards reaching its ESG goals.

In the process of upskilling job seekers, the Prologis Community Workforce Initiative (CWI) will introduce more career opportunities. In addition, expansion of recruitment channels will also help meet the needs of supply chain customers for skilled workers.

Supply chain customers are grappling with a dearth of manpower

With the continuous growth of market demand, the logistics industry is in urgent need of trained workers.

Therefore, Prologis has launched the Community Workforce Initiative (CWI). This training program is designed to create a dedicated talent pipeline for the industry. By providing a constant stream of talent, CWI makes it easier for supply chain customers to find qualified workers.

Launched in 2018, CWI is a direct response to the growing challenges Prologis customers face when seeking and retaining qualified labor.

“Helping people acquire in-demand skills that can translate to fulfilling careers in logistics is a benefit to workers, employers and communities. Beyond creating new career opportunities, the program will strengthen the communities where we operate and contribute to a resilient and healthy logistics industry for years to come.” – Hamid R. Moghadam, chairman and CEO, Prologis.

CWI empowers the training of logistics workers

The CWI has also launched a digital learning and development program to build competencies for today’s logistics workforce. The online program addresses basic workforce skills and logistics-specific training. The courses incorporate the latest technologies, including virtual reality tools, and can be accessed at the student’s convenience using a computer or mobile device.

In order to enhance the professional skills and quality of people seeking careers in logistics and expand the talent pipeline in the supply chain industry, the CWI program between Prologis and JFF focuses on the following two areas:

The first is an online training platform and logistics curriculum, and the second is the certification and dissemination of the value of the Prologis brand. Prologis is creating an industry-driven certification that will help more people begin their careers in logistics and serve as a standard for core skills in the transportation and distribution sectors.

Next, Prologis will continue to work with JFF, a national non-profit organization in the US to provide jobseekers with additional career guidance, coaching and support services to foster their success as the next generation of logistics talent. To date, the program has served 7,000 people.

Maria Flynn, president and CEO of JFF, said that Prologis’ commitment to preparing displaced workers for in-demand roles is the type of proactive leadership we want to see in this moment of crisis. In the long run, its benefits will be profound for workers, employers and the broader economy.

At the same time, Prologis' CWI program has also gained recognition from clients including GEODIS.

According to Hamid R. Moghadam, CWI will focus on enhancing the professional skills of individuals and helping them realize their potential as they grow into rewarding careers in logistics. Going forward, CWI will help bridge the connection between the public and private sector and promote the stable development of the overall supply chain industry.
