Prologis China hits a significant milestone today in its ESG strategy with its first rooftop solar panel project at the Prologis Suzhou Jinchang Logistics Center.
01 Unveiling its first rooftop solar panel project to help customers’ supply chain go green
As the global leader in logistics facilities, Prologis actively drives the installation of solar panels in its logistics centers to provide customers with clean energy and reduce operation costs.
The solar panels at the Prologis Suzhou Jinchang Logistics Center is tailored for a world-renowned furniture company. The customer is planning to use 100% renewable electricity across its global supply chain. By utilizing its high-standard warehousing roof resources, Prologis supports the customer in promoting green energy utilization and emissions reduction in warehousing and logistics.
Patrick Li, Senior Vice President and Head of Operations at Prologis China, said: “we prioritize customer-centricity and support our customers in achieving their development goals through our best-in-class facilities and high-standard operation services. We are dedicated to collaborating with our customers to drive green upgrading in response to China’s push to achieve its ‘dual carbon’ goals.”
This rooftop solar panel system is expected to generate 1.5 million kWh of green electricity, which reduces carbon emissions in warehousing operations, while also improving overall operational efficiency.
02 Accelerating to achieve net zero goals through deep investments in green parks
Prologis has long integrated the concept of sustainable development throughout the entire process of industrial logistics infrastructure design, development, and operation. In June 2022, the company set its aggressive goals: net zero emissions from operations by 2030 and net zero emissions across the entire value chain by 2040. Prologis has also announced a target of generating 1 GW of solar power by 2025.
Prologis China has been supporting the sustainable development of its customers by implementing pilot solar panel projects in selected parks since 2019. Starting this year, Prologis China plans to install rooftop solar panel projects in 10 logistics parks across China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Foshan, and Langfang. In future, Prologis will accelerate the upgrade of its logistics centers into sustainable facilities and provide customers with more sustainable energy solutions.
Prologis has always prioritized energy conservation and environmental protection in its architectural designs, using energy-saving roofs and environmentally friendly materials among others, to reduce carbon emissions during construction. As of June 2022, 550 of Prologis’ projects around the world have achieved recognition for their sustainability efforts from leading certification bodies, such as the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED certification for logistics centers.
Prologis is promoting the use of LED lighting systems in its operations, with 57% of its facilities worldwide already utilizing this energy-efficient technology. By using LED lighting, Prologis helps its customers to save on energy costs. To keep pace with the rapid growth of new energy vehicles, some of Prologis’ parks have established EV charging stations to enhance operational efficiency.
Looking to the future, Prologis remains committed to upgrading its facilities and delivering sustainable energy solutions to customers. Prologis aims to improve the utilization of clean energy, to promote energy conservation, and to reduce carbon emissions across all facilities. Prologis also strives to support the green upgrading of different industries’ value chains. By collaborating closely with customers, Prologis believes that win-win can be achieved together on the journey towards sustainability.
